About Molly & Eleanor
Molly Lieber and Eleanor Smith are New York-based feminist artists whose partnership spans the last two decades. Their collaboration deconstructs neoliberal images of female objectification and presents new versions, coming from the potentiality of movement to express inner landscape. Their practice is in continuous dialogue with building a sustainable life as working artists in New York. Their works have been presented by Invisible Dog, River-to-River, New York Live Arts, Jane Hotel, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Abrons Arts Center, PS122, The Chocolate Factory Theater, Roulette, and elsewhere. Residencies/awards include LMCC Extended Life Award, Artists in Residence Movement Research, Jerome Hill Fellowship Finalists, Jerome Foundation AIRSpace Residency Abrons Art Center, FCA Emergency Grant, BACSpace Residency Baryshnikov Art Center, Family Residency Mt. Tremper Arts, Bessie Schonberg Fellows The Yard, DiP Artists Gibney. Featured in The New York Times “Best Dance of 2017”, New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” Award for Outstanding Performance (Lieber), LMCC Process Space, New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” Award Nomination Emerging Choreographer, NYFA Fellow Finalist Award. Recent teaching includes Connecticut College, Sarah Lawrence College, The New School, Pratt, and Sarah Lawrence College. They participated in the Mnemedance Conference in Venice and have an upcoming chapter in the Oxford Handbook of Dance and Memory.
Molly Lieber received a New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” Award for Outstanding Performance and has danced in works by luciana achugar (since 2013), Vanessa Anspaugh, Oren Barnoy, Wally Cardona and Jennifer Lacey, Keely Garfield, Beth Gill, Neil Greenberg, Maria Hassabi, Heidi Henderson, Juliette Mapp, Antonio Ramos, Melinda Ring, Brian Rogers, Donna Uchizono, Jen Rosenblit, Anna Sperber, Katie Workum, and others. She is currently working on projects for luciana achugar, Wally Cardona, Sally Silvers, and Tatyana Tenenbaum. Molly teaches at Queens College (CUNY). She earned an MFA in Dance and a Graduate Certificate Degree in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Eleanor Smith has performed in works by Vanessa Anspaugh, Anna Azrieli, Ivy Baldwin Dance, Levi Gonzalez, Julie Mayo, Molly Poerstel, robbinschilds, Katie Workum Dance, Ash Yergens, and others. Outside of dancing, she has studied with Resmaa Menakem and Bayo Akomolafe. She has an MFA in Dance from Hunter College, CUNY, where she also taught contemporary technique and improvisation.
